He is skilled at producing results with multiple stakeholders to achieve meaningful solutions. Truly a servant, Doug, continues to work hard daily to earn your vote and will be honored to serve as Comal County Commissioner Precinct #1.
In 1991, Doug while attending college, was working full time in a retail store in Plano, Texas when he met Michele, who was working part time at the same store, during the Christmas holidays. Within a year they were engaged and continued to put themselves through college. By 1996, they were married and off to Houston, where Michele began medical school at the University of Texas College of Medicine. Doug continued his career as a manager for the same retail company, followed by a position as a business data analyst for another retail organization; while attending college at night. Doug and Michele have now been married for 27 years and have been blessed with four fantastic children. Their eldest son attends the University of the Incarnate Word of Osteopathic Medicine, their second son, attends UTSA as a Business Marketing Major, their third son, attends UTSA as a Mechanical Engineering major and, finally their daughter, currently in high school, anticipates following in her mother's footsteps.
Doug and his family attend St. Thomas Catholic Church in Canyon Lake, where Doug is also an Officer in the Knights of Columbus. He previously was also involved as a Habitat for Humanity volunteer through the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, as he enjoys sharing his passion for working with others through service to his community.
Doug graduated from UTSA with a BA in History. His tenure in retail and health care provided valuable experience in developing business plans, forecasting, budgeting, expense saving measures, consumer relations, and the use of information technology to develop database utilities for analysis and process management. Recognizing Michele's developing medical practice as an OB/GYN required a significant amount of her time, Doug semi-retired in order that he would have more time to devote to his family. During this time, he also served on his HOA as a board member for 17 years, 10 of which as its President. In this role, he facilitated communication, by being the webmaster of the community website, coordinated with all contractors for infrastructure maintenance and improvements, hosted countless meetings in various formats to solve neighborhood problems, communicate board activities and dispute management, and with his board of directors, managed all aspects of operations and governing document oversight, including the design and complete overhaul of the entrance to the neighborhood with a guard gate. Doug also gained valuable experience dealing with Texas property code, utility companies, governmental entities, street and infrastructure maintenance and improvements, local code compliance, deed enforcement, land conservancy enforcements, contract negotiations and budget management.
In 2017 Doug and Michele purchased a home in Canyon Lake in Precinct 1. He proudly acted as the general contractor for the remodel. He has since become involved as the Vice-President of the Canyon Lake Noon Lions Club, an Officer of the Knights of Columbus Council #7347, Leadership New Braunfels Class of 2024, Member of the Board of Directors of Comal County Conservation Alliance, Lifetime Member of the Canyon Lake Gorge Preservation Society, Sponsor of DAM Community Alliance, a volunteer with the Comal ISD Education Foundation, Principal member of the Canyon Lake Boat Ramp Alliance, Graduate of Comal County University of County Government, Graduate and Alumni of the Comal County Citizens Sheriff Academy, a member of Canyon Lake Republican Women, Patriot Member of New Braunfels Conservatives, Patron Member of the Republican Club of Comal County, Patron Life Member NRA, Lifetime member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Member of Comal County Friends of Night Sky, CCRC Volunteer, and 100 Club Member.
Clearly Doug’s attributes obtained through employment, volunteering and life experiences are those that would serve him and Comal County well. Doug is a result driven, natural leader who listens to those that he is serving and strives to produce meaningful solutions.
